Wrapping up in Remera

Days 8 & 9 (Thursday and Friday)

Wayne finished teaching the pastors on Thursday and concluded on Friday with a challenge from Romans 10: 13-15.  The men were encouraged to continue to teach God’s word and bring “glad tidings of good things”.  The men shared their personal thanks for the training and their respective churches were growing.  One pastor in particular, Bampoyiki Jean, has been the teaching pastor for one year in the village of Bihungwe reported his church has grown by 100.

Paige, Ashley, and Sarah continued to play with the kids and teach in the afternoons.  Paige gave P5 (like 5th grade) students she's been working with all week some cards that her fifth graders from the US wrote.  They were very sweet!  Sarah was able to meet with a teacher yesterday and answer some of his questions about how to manage learners of varying skill levels in one classroom (i.e. differentiate instruction) as well as methodologies of second language instruction.  The conversation then turned into some religious questions, one of them being about why there seem to be "many paths" to get to Heaven.  She was able to talk him through the true Gospel, explaining that all that one needs to do is to believe Jesus died for ones sins.  There is nothing else we can do except to accept God's grace and Jesus' substitution for our sins.

Friday we were able to follow up with students in the sponsorship program.  We were also able to deliver mail from sponsors to the students.

Next week we will be traveling to a few different villages to visit and encourage church plants.  Pray for smooth car rides, absent of any motion sickness, as some of us are prone to that!
