Day 2 and 3

The team checked in today.  A lot has happened over the past 2 days that they updated us on.

Day 2
Monday was a long day filled with traveling.  They visited the northwest region of the country where there are several dormant volcanoes, making for very rough roads.  That, combined with the rainy season, makes travel difficult.  The churches and schools that are in these areas are very encouraged by our visit, but it also provides them with a chance to see Esron, the country leader of the Evangelical Churches in Rwanda.  The men who lead these churches and schools are so grateful for the chance we provide them to see their leader.

They visited Pastor John's church in Kabiri.  Pastor John has been attending Wayne's pastor trainings for several years, so it was very special for him to have Wayne and the team worship with his church.  After sharing in worship at the church, they visited the women's pig project that One27 helped start this summer.  It was very rainy and only Wayne was able to get out and walk to the pig pen.

From there, they went to visit a vocational school in Kariba where our friend Alexi is the headmaster.  One of the skills the school teaches is sewing.  They have the machines, but are in needs of materials
Their last stop (after a very long, bumpy ride down roads paved with lava rocks) was at a secondary school in Kabatwa.  Bill, one of our team members who is a health professor at Sam Houston State, taught the teachers a lesson in health and active learning.  The teachers had a lot of fun.  While they were there, Pastor Esron was able to see his brother and aging father.

Day 3
Tuesday was another day of travels.  Another exhausting day, though not quite as long.  The villages they visited were Bumbungo and Gaharoro.  They didn't send much detail about these stops, other than the people they visited were encouraged and it was a very good day.

The city will pretty much shut down tomorrow as everyone will be celebrating New Years.  New Years is a time of praise for the things the Lord has brought them through in the past year and anticipation of what the coming year will bring.  Our team will spend most of the day at the church in a time of worship with singing and dancing.

(And I know our fearless leader Wayne, would want me to throw in a "gig 'em, Aggies!")
