Rwanda 2013: Main objectives

"Pure and undefiled religion... is this:
to minister to widows and orphans in their distress,
and to keep oneself unstained by the world."
{James 1:27}

This years trip will focus heavily on the following areas.  We want to take this opportunity to break down these areas and explain how/why the Lord has placed them on our heart.  {This is a copy of our June 2013 Trip Update Letter.  If you'd like to be a part of our email updates and mailouts, send us an email at katy@one27ministries.org.}

OPERATION TIMOTHY- This is the 5th pastor training that One27 has hosted.  These trainings are a critical part of One27’s ministry.  Most village pastors have no formal training and rarely have up to a high school education.  We believe that when these pastors are effectively trained to clearly present the gospel and lead their churches, they have an impact far greater than we could if we were to simply go teach their churches for them.  As we emphasize the importance of James 1:27 with these pastors, we extend the mission of One27 far beyond the 18 days of this trip.

EVE EXPEDITION- We are so excited to host our first women’s conference this year.  The women in the church have looked forward to this training for several years.  Our conference will focus on evangelism, discipleship, and fellowship.  We hope to encourage the 50 women attending, while reiterating what scripture says about the vitality of their role as wives, mothers, and leaders. Some women may not be widows, but at our conference, we will emphasize the importance of being a body of believers and reaching out to “the least of these” (Matt. 25:40, namely widows and orphans).  Again, we are seeking to extend the impact/mission of One27 beyond what we personally do on this trip.

YOUTH CONFERENCE- We will also be hosting our first youth conference.  In Rwanda, “youth” is a broad term used for anyone who is unmarried.  Some of the youth attending will be orphans.  Our focus here is similar to the women’s conference- evangelism, discipleship, and fellowship.  We hope to encourage and empower these youth to look out for one another (and their elders) and to grow up into a generation that will reach its country with the gospel.

OPERATION PAIDION- We are hosting a children’s program for the students at the Remera school (about half the students at this school are orphans, many of whom are sponsored by One27) and children who live nearby.  We look forward to this opportunity to love on these children and share the message of Jesus with them.

VILLAGE EVANGELISM AND ENCOURAGEMENT- When we visit village churches that we have partnered with in the past, we clearly present the gospel- something that even some church members have not heard before.  We also encourage them to be bold and strong in their faith.  Upon meeting these believers and see their excitement as we arrive, we are reminded of how encouraged they are that we would come to worship with them.
