Next week, we will pick back up on our weekly prayer requests for our upcoming trip.
Today is Genocide Memorial Day in Rwanda.
19 years ago, something began that would change the course of history, not only for this country, but for the world.
The genocide is a sensitive subject and it's hard to write about. There have been movies made and countless books written that can detail these events better than I can here.
The war was a result of cultural tensions that had grown over years. Over the course of 100 days, as many as 1 million people (20% of the country's population) were killed.
The things that happened during (and surrounding) those 100 days left a country devastated.
Unspeakable, unimaginable violence.
Families ran for miles in fear, men died protecting their families.
Women were tortured and raped, HIV to spread rapidly.
Children watched as their parents were murdered.
No one was left unaffected.
It makes me sick to type those words.
May these things happen NEVER AGAIN.
God has called us to minister to the people of Rwanda.
"Pure and undefiled religion is this:
that you minister to widows and orphans in their distress,
and keep oneself unstained by the world."
{James 1:27}
Great healing has come to Rwanda and we pray the restoration continues.
Pray for our the country of Rwanda today.
This is a hard day for our friends, as they remember what happened 19 years ago.
